AI credits explained: models, image sizes and video duration

Understand image and video credit estimates, per-image quantity, video duration, annual billing and failed-task credit reversals in Grok Imagine.

AI credits explained: models, image sizes and video duration

AI credits pay for generation tasks. In Grok Imagine, the model and its settings determine the estimate. Check that estimate before submitting; a subscription price and the cost of a single generation are different things.

Image cost is per image

Choose an image model and a priced resolution. For Grok Imagine at 1K, each image costs 10 credits, so two images have an estimated total of 20 credits. Changing either the model or resolution can change the per-image cost.

A higher-resolution option is not always available for every model. The generator shows priced options for the selected model instead of applying one generic price to every image request.

Video cost depends on the model and duration

Many configured video models use a per-second rate at each resolution. For example, Grok Imagine Video 1.5 at 720P is configured at 28 credits per second: five seconds costs 140 credits and six seconds costs 168 credits.

Veo uses fixed duration tiers instead of this simple multiplication. Review the displayed estimate after changing the model, resolution or duration. These examples describe the current configuration, not a guarantee that future pricing will remain unchanged.

A plan price is different from an individual task cost

Pricing lists monthly subscriptions, yearly subscriptions and one-time credit packs. For a yearly subscription, the page shows the monthly equivalent and the actual annual amount billed. The annual credit allocation is issued after successful payment.

For example, the configured Starter yearly plan is billed at $286.80 for the year and grants 18,000 credits upfront. It is not twelve separate monthly payments. Compare the actual checkout amount, included credits and any expiration terms before purchasing.

One-time credit packs are separate purchases. Their available credit amount and validity conditions appear with the product. Do not infer that buying a pack creates a subscription.

What happens when a task fails?

The service records credit consumption together with the generation task. A task marked failed or canceled by the implemented task flow has its consumed credits reversed with guards against duplicate reversals. A credit reversal is not the same as a cash refund.

If a provider reports completion but does not return media, the service treats it as an error instead of settling a successful task with no result. Payment and credit records can be checked through your account's available billing and credit pages.

Check the balance and keep useful identifiers

After signing in, the credit indicator beside your account shows the available balance and refreshes as the workspace receives credit updates. If a charge or result looks wrong, keep the task or order number and contact support. Avoid resubmitting a processing task repeatedly.

You can try the image generator or video generator, then review the current estimate before creating.
